Chapter 13. SOIL AND ITS USES

Among all "layers" of Biosphere (atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere) soil is the thinnest, and the most fragmented one. And it is the only one created by both biotic and abiotic forces of Nature. And it is more than special, it is unique: life on land is impossible without soil. It is not only about supporting plant growth, it is about decomposition -- obligatory part of the life cycle, of every food chain, and of the continuity of existence.
