Chapter 8. ENERGY AND CIVILIZATION: PATTERNS OF CONSUMPTION
What did you buy recently? Recall the price of this item. And now think, what determines this price? Material? Labor? Delivery? This is correct, all of these are essential, but ultimately, you pay for the energy related to each component. It does not take long to figure it out that any stage of production, any kind of service we use daily, any element of the comfort of our life we enjoy, at the end of the day means energy consumed to achieve desired outcome. Investigation energy consumption leads to the very core of the problem. It is equally important, that energy serves a "hard currency" making comparisons between seemingly unrelated human activities legit.
